8/365 Mirroring Myrna
This piece is a reflection of Myrna Wacknov's portrait 365/16 ( should be 365/17)posted on January 16, 2010. I used a sharpened wood stick dipped in ink just like Myrna. I have never used these materials to sketch with before. I am not pleased with the portrait itself, I am however pleased with myself for trying something new. It was a lot tougher than I thought it would be.
As an artist you are never done learning. There is always a lesson in every piece. There is always a technique that you haven't mastered. Today was a learning experience just as I hope that the rest of this project will prove to be.

The expressiveness here is intense; your image creates a hybrid of German Expressionism and the early Japanese ink drawings.
I need to explore the same idea with my skteches... on one of Myrna's self portraits I said the same thing in fact. You two have me reconsidering my tools.
—and sketches #23 and #24 show a great eye for graphic details. Look forward seeing more over time!
